DESCRIPTION
WinRAR is one of the best and most popular archiving tools on planet
Earth, with support for almost all known archiving and compression
formats that are used today by both home and professional users (RAR and
ZIP archives and is able to unpack CAB, ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, ACE, UUE,
BZ2, JAR, ISO, 7Z, Z archives). The program also works with multi-volume
archives (which span on more than one hard disks/floppy
drive/CD/DVD/USB Stick), offers different levels of compression, can
create self-extracting archives, and supports password protection as
well.
First version of WinRAR was created by the Russian developer Eugene Roshal in 1995 for DOS and 16-bit Windows 3.x operating systems, 2 years after he managed to create RAR compression file format. Modern version of WinRAR app and RAR standard arrived in 2002, with new version of RAR standard (v3, incompatible with older versions of app), with many popular features being added to this popular compression and backup software over the next few years - most notably skin support in 2005, multithreading in 2006, Unicode UTF-8 filename support in 2008, native 64-bit support for Windows 7 in 2009, 30% work speed increase in 2011, removal of ZIP size limitations in 2012 and new RAR file format (version 5) in 2013.
WinRar has easy to use interface and a built-in Wizard which can help all the novice users to easily manage, create and prepare their compressed archives for transport (either as email attachments or multi-volume archives). It is also extremely fast, can work quietly in the background, can be run from the command line, can work with files as big as 8,589 billion gigabytes in size, and offers 128 bit encryption. WinRar 4 has been translated into more than 45 languages!
